Businesses Affected by Flood Get Tax Extension

If your business was impacted by flood, you might have an extension to file your taxes.

Business taxpayers who were affected by the latest wave of storms and flooding will be allowed additional time to file and pay.

Taxes were due between March 29 and April 1 and Gov. M. Jodi Rell says the deadline has been extended to April 9.

“For the second time in a month, Connecticut was hit with record-setting rainfall that caused tremendous damage and the need to evacuate some areas,” Rell said. “Understandably, business owners and preparers in these areas were unable to meet the original filing and payment deadlines for some Connecticut business taxes. Those taxpayers will now have until April 9 to file without penalty.”

If you were affected by storms, you should write “New England Flooding” across the top of the return to ensure special processing. If you file electronically, disregard the penalty and interest calculations when submitting payment.

“As many businesses assess the damage and the impact these storms will have on their bottom line, they should not have to factor in late filing penalties because they were incapable of meeting the deadline,” Governor Rell said. “I hope this extension of time provides some relief to taxpayers concerned about meeting the filing deadline.”
