Two people have died and three other people are injured after a crash in Winchester late Monday night.

Two people have died and three other people are injured after a crash in Winchester late Monday night.

Winchester Police said they were called to a crash on Route 8, south of Route 20 around 11:30 p.m. after 19-year-old Kayla Lombardo, of Winsted, lost control of a 2000 Honda Civic, crossed the center line, drove off the road and crashed into a tree.

She and the front passenger, 26-year-old Ryan Cote, from Winsted, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Three other people who were in the back of the vehicle were injured.

Police said a 17-year-old Winsted girl was thrown from the vehicle and sustained severe injuries.

Abigail Passini, 18, of Winsted, sustained severe injuries and 22-year-old Tyler Godfrey, of Winsted, sustained minor injuries, police said. All occupants were transported to hospitals for treatment.

LifeStar received a call to respond but said a helicopter could not fly due to the weather.

The Connecticut State Police Accident Investigation team responded to assist with the investigation.

It is unclear what caused the crash.
