The cause of a fire at a soil treatment and recycling facility in Plainville on Tuesday is under investigation..

Police said the fire was at Clean Earth of Connecticut, which was formerly Phoenix Soil, LLC. on North Washington Street.

According to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, their Emergency Response Unit responded to the fire.

When DEEP arrived, the fire was already out and there was no smoke coming from the stack, DEEP officials said.

DEEP said the facility operator told them that the plant was not incinerating at the time of the fire and had been offline since Tuesday morning.

There is no word on what may have started the fire.
