A creative crook made off with a Croc and left a sneaker in its place, creating a conundrum for Fairfield cops who have been through some strangely similar thefts more than a decade ago.
The victim apparently left a pair of green-brown Crocs, size 8 or 9, on the porch Saturday night, the Connecticut Post reports. By morning, the left shoe was gone. In its place was a sneaker -- size 11, for the right foot, the newspaper reports.
Along with it was a pack of gum and something that makes this crime turn from weird to gross -- an "unidentified liquid" that cops told the paper could be semen or saliva. A swab will eventually tell what it is.
In 1998, local police investigated about 12 thefts. In each case, one shoe was taken. Police eventually arrested their man in that case.
