Tornado Warning, Severe Thunderstorm Warnings Expire

Strong to severe thunderstorms moved into the state Tuesday afternoon

Strong thunderstorms moved through Connecticut on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a tornado warning for Windham County through 4:30 p.m. and severe thunderstorm warnings in northern Connecticut.

A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was first reported located over Eastford as of 3:59 p.m. The storm moved along Route 44  into the Woodstock area.

The storms contained heavy rain, vivid lightning and high winds as they moved through the state.

Eversource was reporting around 1,000 power outages as of 3 p.m. and that number is up to 4,000 as of 3:30 p.m. As of 4:30, the number of power outages is around 3,200.

The state Department of Motor Vehicles closed the New Britain branch early because of a power outage.

In Simsbury, Route 10 was closed between West Street and Powder Forest because trees and wires are down across the road and Riverside Road was closed between Drake Hill Road and East Weatogue Street a tree and wires down there.

Norwalk police have issued a warning about road flooding and urged people not to drive through standing water.
