I-95 New Haven Traffic Shift Starts Today

This weekend the DOT wants you to slow down, be mindful of DOT workers and start adjusting to the new traffic pattern.

Drivers should expect significant delays on Interstate 95 through New Haven starting today because of a planned traffic shift.

The Department of Transportation is relocating lanes of I-95 northbound to the new bridge over Water Street. The work will result in the I-95 north off-ramp to I-91 north (exit 48) becoming a right hand exit.

The work starts Thursday July 14 and goes through Saturday July 16, and is part of the I-95 New Haven Harbor Crossing Corridor Improvement Program. The DOT says lane and on/off ramp closures and detours will start at 9 p.m. Thursday night.

A complete stoppage on I-95 will happen between midnight and 7 a.m. from exit 44 to exit 46 that Saturday to install new signage.

Drivers are advised to plan extra travel time in the area and seek alternate routes if possible. For more details and ramp and detour maps click here.
