Everyone involved in the crash was from Rhode Island

We’re learning more about a wrong-way crash that took the lives of three Rhode Island residents just over the Connecticut border in North Stonington Wednesday night.

Three people, including an 85-year-old man, an 83-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl, were killed and three others were injured in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 95 in North Stonington, Connecticut Wednesday night.

According to State Police, Abigayl Lanphear, 17, of Westerly, Rhode Island, was driving a 2002 Mercedes Benz south in the northbound lanes of I-95 just before 8 p.m. when she hit a 2017 Honda Accord head-on near exit 93 in North Stonington.

Lanphear died in the crash, as did Roger Noel, 85, and Dorothy Noel, 83, both of West Warwick.

Roger Noel was driving on the proper side of the highway when he was hit by the car Lanphear was driving, State Police said.

Two other passengers in Noel’s Accord, Yvonne Noel, 56, of West Kingston, and Cynthia Plaziak, 62, of an unknown address, and a passenger in Lanphear's car, Jada Laboy, 17, of Westerly, Rhode Island survived the crash.

The road was closed for several hours for accident reconstruction.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call Connecticut State Police Troop E.
