One Dead, Another Seriously Injured in Bristol Crash

A man was killed and his passenger seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in Bristol Friday afternoon.

Bristol police said Raymond Smith of Wallingford was driving his motorcycle east on South Street when he was struck by a dump truck, operated by Robert Choinski, 31, of New Britain. The CWPM Waste Management truck was traveling west on South Street and was turning left onto East Street when the accident occurred.

Smith was taken to Bristol Hospital where he died of his injuries. His passenger, Allison Vandermaelan, 41, of Wallingford, was transported via LifeStar medical transport helicopter to the hospital where she remains in grave condition, according to police.

The Bristol police Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Officer Kosiba at (860) 584-3035.

The road was closed for several hours, police said.
