North Haven police have arrested a man who is accused of stabbing a family member several times during a funeral, then trying to get away in a limousine, according to police.
A Meriden man who was arrested in North Haven on Wednesday, accused of stabbing a relative in a cemetery after a family member’s funeral, then trying to get away in a limousine appeared in court on Thursday.
Police officers responded to All Saints Cemetery, at 700 Middletown Ave. on Wednesday afternoon after two men got into an argument that escalated into violence as mourners were leaving the cemetery, according to police.
The victim suffered several non-life-threatening stab wounds and was taken to the hospital.
Police identified the suspect as Robert Ferrie, 54, of Meriden, and said he tried to get away in the back seat of one of the limousines. Police caught up with the vehicle near the cemetery gate and took Ferrie into custody.
He has been charged with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and breach of peace.
Ferrie was originally held on a $150,000 bond, but it was reduced to $75,000. He is due next in court on Oct. 22.
