New Haven Police Investigate Gunfire Report

Police responded to reports of gunfire near Washington Avenue and Ella T. Grasso Boulevard on Saturday just after midnight.

But police found no physical evidence that gunshots were fired and said that there were no reported victims.

Witnesses police interviewed heard shots, but no one reported seeing a shooter or criminal activity, police said.

A half-hour earlier on Saturday night, the police department's ShotSpotter technology detected two gunshots fired near Goff and Winter streets and police responded despite no 911 calls.

Police did not find evidence backing the gunfire report.
