Two police officers shot a knife-wielding man in a park in Naugatuck Thursday morning, according to authorities.

Police shot a man at Baummer’s Pond in Naugatuck on Thursday morning after he got into a confrontation with officers, according to police.

Officers responded to the pond around 9:15 a.m. after learning that a man had a knife and two officers fired their department-issued guns during the confrontation, police said.

The man is at a local hospital to be treated and the officers are receiving medical attention and are safe, police said.

Access to the pond is closed to the public.
