Multiple State Parks Close After Reaching Capacity

State officials are getting ready for people to head to state parks and beaches for Memorial Day weekend and beyond and explained how they will manage social distancing.

Multiple state parks have closed after reaching parking capacity on Saturday.

The following state parks have reached capacity and are now closed:

  • Bigelow Hollow State Park in Union
  • Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison
  • Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford
  • Millers Pond State Park in Haddam
  • Rocky Neck State Park in East Lyme
  • Sherwood Island State Park in Westport
  • Silver Sands State Park in Milford
  • Southford Falls State Park in Southford
  • Wadsworth Falls State Park in Middletown

State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection officials said the parks that are closed today are expected to reopen tomorrow.

State parks are limited to 50 percent capacity as part of the state's coronavirus guidelines to help with social distancing.
