Tim McGraw to Perform Concert for Sandy Hook Promise

Country singer Tim McGraw will be performing a special concert in Connecticut this summer and all of the proceeds will be going to Sandy Hook Promise, an organization founded in the wake of the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut in 2012.

Sandy Hook Promise is close to McGraw’s heart.

“Out of this tragedy a group was formed that made a promise to honor the lives lost and turn it into a moment of transformation,” McGraw in a statement. “Sandy Hook Promise teaches that we can do something to protect our children from gun violence. I want to be a part of that promise – as a father and as a friend.”

Dean Brown, the fiddle player in McGraw’s touring band, is a longtime friend to Mark Barden, a musician and father of a Daniel Barden, who was killed in the 2012 tragedy.

“I look forward to being a part of a night of hope and promise and music that will help continue the great work that Sandy Hook Promise is doing,” Dean Brown said.

Mark Barden said his family is “humbled” that McGraw would do this.

“Dean and his wife Cindy helped my wife and I through our darkest hour and helped buoy our spirits. It meant more than words could ever say,” he said.

McGraw’s show, A Concert for Sandy Hook Promise, is slated for July 17 at XFINITY Theatre in Hartford.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday and 100 percent of the net proceeds event will benefit the local organization.
