Police ID Driver Killed in Truck Crash on I-84 in Newtown

One person is dead following a double tractor-trailer crash in Newtown

A Pennsylvania man is dead after his truck crashed into another tractor-trailer that was stopped in heavy traffic on I-84 East in Newtown early this morning, according to state police.

Police said Warren Leroy Jefferson, 49, of Bath. Pennsylvania, was driving a Penske tractor-trailer and crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer that was stopped in the center lane of I-84 between exits 10 and 11 at 4:21 a.m.

Jefferson was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver, John Krupskas, 65, of Dickerson City, Pennsylvania, was transported to Danbury Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The road has reopened after being closed for hours, but there are residual delays from Danbury to Route 6.

Police are investigating and are asking witnesses to call 203-267-2200.
