Over 2 dozen displaced, several pets dead after Waterbury fire

NBC Connecticut

Over two dozen people are displaced and several pets are dead after a fire broke out at a home in Waterbury Monday night.

The fire department was called to a two-alarm fire at a multi-family home on William Street. It appears as though fire tore through the third floor of the structure.

Six families lived in the building, and a total of 27 people were displaced. This includes 20 adults, six children and a baby, fire officials said.

Crews said several pets died in the fire, but most were rescued. Tenants have since been taken to temporary housing.

It's unknown if there are any injuries, but the fire has been placed under control.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
