Windsor High Student Killed in Hartford

Neighbors said the teen was at a Sweet 16 birthday party,

One of the two people killed in a violent weekend in Hartford was a student at Windsor High School and his classmates are in mourning.

DaJon Walcott, 16, was shot in the side and leg in the driveway of 102 Thomaston St. in Hartford around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday and later died at the hospital.

Neighbors said the teen was at a Sweet 16 birthday party,

Friends said the shooting happened just a few hours after his senior prom, but school officials said the prom was last week.

Walcott's classmates are in shock.

"When I heard it, it's like you can't believe it. I'm used to seeing him every day,” Brandon Davis said. “He's not there anymore. I think that's the worst part."

Isaiah Webb said many people are shaken and the school will be quiet, especially classmates who will be looking at the empty seat.

Hartford police are keeping the victim's name confidential during the investigation, but the superintendent said the teen was a student.

“We join the family and friends of this young man mourning the tragic loss of life. Windsor High School is providing support to our students as they deal with this terrible news through a crisis support team," the superintendent said.

Wolcott is one of 10 people shot in eight shootings over the weekend.

Mayor Pedro Segarra and the chief of police are meeting on Monday to talk about bringing in extra resources to combat the gun violence.

Hartford police said the public's help will be crucial in making arrests in each of these cases.
