Work Begins on Injured Marine's Home

Manny Jimenez was severely injured in August 2010

A little snow didn’t get in the way of the groundbreaking in Glastonbury on Thursday for a specially adapted home for Cpl. Manny Jimenez, a New Britain Marine

Jimenez was severely injured in August 2010 in an IED explosion in Afghanistan and lost his left arm and hearing in his left ear from the blast that also left him partially blind in his left eye.

The Glastonbury Rotary and Purple Heart Homes have worked to design a barrier-free three-bedroom home for the young Marine.

The excavation process is officially underway with New York City firefighters and first responders from Heart 911 scheduled to arrive in March to frame, side and add the roof trusses.

The Glastonbury Rotary has laid out a timeline of 120 days from groundbreaking to the mission accomplished ceremony, where Jimenez will be presented with the keys to the home.

Jimenez is at Walter Reed Bethesda Hospital and awaiting his separation papers from the Marines.
