Waterford Lancers softball joining the lancers baseball team as 2019 state champions.
The softball team topped powerhouse Seymour 6-5 to secure the Class M title on Saturday.
Seymour’s Morgan Toedosio’s fourth inning home run sparked a four-run inning to make it a tied ballgame at 5-all. But in the bottom of the fourth, the Lancers answered with Gina McKittrick’s RBI single to go-ahead.
“There’s a lot of talent on our team and especially such a young team,” Waterford senior catcher Lili Stoddard said. “I don’t think a lot of people expected it out of us, especially after losing in ECC’s. I think it just lit a fire under our rear ends to do a heck of a lot better in the state tournament.”
