Increase Security at Train Stations
Train passengers noticed things were a little different Friday morning, when they went to board to their trains to Connecticut. Even as we were entering the subway to get to Grand Central, there were a lot more police officers checking bags, said Nick Burrage, who was traveling in from New York City. The stepped up security continued at Union Station in New Haven. In fact, authorities say the extra patrols will be from New York to Boston. They started on Tuesday, the anniversary of the Boston Marathon Bombings, and will end next Tuesday, day after this years marathon. I think theyre just being extra cautious, which is good, because you never know what can happen, said Burrage. Its great to have extra security now, and to up it and I feel a lot more safe to have people around, said Alyssa Cebulski, who was traveling in from New York City. It wont only be extra officers who people will see on the platforms, at the stations and on board the trains, but police K-9s will also be making the rounds and checking bags for anything suspicious. I think its definitely necessary. You dont know what people have intentions on doing, so you might need some increased security, said Pamela Johnson, who was taking her family to New York City.
