Preparing For The Mayors Ball

Inside the hangar at Robinson Aviation, the flowers are being arranged and the lights are getting wired for a very special Inaugural Ball for New Haven Mayor Toni Harp. “I’m really excited, but I’m even more excited that there are so many people in our town who are excited about it. Over 1300 people will be at the ball,” said New Haven Mayor Toni Harp. With all eyes on the new Mayor, she’ll be the belle of the ball dressed in a custom made gown from New Haven designer Neville Wisdom. “A very classy dress. She wanted something classical because that’s her personality, but I’m going to spice it up with a little Neville in it,” said Neville Wisdom. He couldn’t be convinced to give a preview, but at Hairs Kay Beauty Salon, owner Karaine Holness says she plans to do an elegant up do with the Mayor’s hair. The Mayor wanted to make sure she was supporting local businesses with the ball. Therefore, her jewelry will come from Peter Indorf Jewelers and Derek Simpson Goldsmith, her gown from Neville Wisdom and her hair and makeup from Hairs Kay. “I’m nervous about it, but my clients are extremely excited about it, so we’re very happy,” said Karaine Holness. While local vendors are being hired to assist with Saturday’s Inaugural Ball, the Ball itself isn’t costing the City a dime. The City is not involved in it at all, so no one is paying for it except the tickets and money is that is raised and donated,” said Roberta Hoskie, a co-chair for the event. Proceeds from the ticket sales will go to an endowment within the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. “It will benefit our youth as well as our seniors in New Haven,” said Mayor Toni Harp.
