Monica Buchanan joined the NBC Connecticut news team in October 2007.
Monica began her career as a general assingmment reporter for WCTV in Tallahassee, Florida. During her time there, Monica flew in a historic World War II T-6 plane, crafted several award winning stories on Moody Air Force Base and covered four major hurricanes. Monica also co-anchored a news-talk program on WVGA 105.9 FM.
Her next move took her to WWSB in Sarasota, Florida where she worked as a breaking news reporter and fill-in anchor. While in Srasota, Monica covered a number of national stories.
During her career, she's covered big stories like the Joseph Smith murder trial. The trial received national attention after a car wash surveillance tape of Smith abducting 12 year old Carlie Brucia became prosecutor's main piece of evidence against him. She contributed to news coverage that wond the station several AP awards, including best continuing coverage. Monica also covered the arrest and indictment of NBA offical Tim Donaghy from his Lakewood Ranch home.
Monica graduated summa cum laude from the University of Florida with a degree in broadcast journalism.
When she's not covering the news, Monica loves taking pictures of New England, cooking and spending time with her fiancé Kevin. As a Florida native, she's learning to embrace the northern weather and is eager to finally experience the change of seasons.
