Shyang Puri is a reporter for the NBC Connecticut Investigates team. She can be seen on air Tuesdays through Saturdays on NBC Connecticut.
Shyang is passionate about reporting impactful stories and connecting with viewers in our communities. One of Shyang’s most memorable reports linked a common shrub to high numbers of Lyme disease-carrying ticks. She also worked to expose how major bridge repairs have been impacted by Connecticut’s budget problem.
Shyang got her start with NBC as a Page, starting in 2014, and working at CNBC, MSNBC and Saturday Night Live. She joined NBC Connecticut in 2017 as an investigative producer with the Troubleshooters and CT Responds while working as an NBC News Associate.
Specializing in violin performance, Shyang graduated from the Royal College of Music in London with a Bachelor’s in Music, and earned her Master’s in Music Performance from Johns Hopkins University.
In her spare time, Shyang enjoys cooking, which she describes as “competitive sport” in her family, which has roots in China and India. An avid traveler, she enjoys incorporating skills and flavors from her trips into the recipes she tries at home.
A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Shyang is happy to be back in New England, where she can enjoy the best clam chowder and ice cream on earth. She looks forward to exploring Connecticut’s Wine Trail, and having easy access to farm-fresh produce. She and her dog Pipa, a Connecticut Humane Society rescue, are excited about the adventures that lie ahead!
