2 Thrown From Boat During Accident on Bantam Lake

Two people were thrown off a pontoon boat when it collided with a speedboat. They were rescued and reported to be in stable condition Wednesday night.

Emergency crews responded to a boating accident on Bantam Lake in Morris Wednesday.

Litchfield County dispatchers said the initial call came through as a collision between two boats. The call came in around 6:42 p.m.

Two people were thrown off a pontoon boat when it collided with a speedboat. They were rescued and reported to be in stable condition Wednesday night.

State Environmental Conservation Police told NBC Connecticut they expected to have to rescue someone from the water on Bantam Lake before the day ended, simply because it was so crowded for the Fourth of July.

There were initial reports that one of the boats fled the scene, but police said that boat just went back to the dock out of fear of sinking due to the damage sustained in the crash.

Investigators don't believe speed or alcohol played a factor in the crash, it was just an accident due to the crowded lake.

"The lake doesn’t get any more busy than it is right now on what feels like a hundred degree day," said Sgt. Tate Begley.

The crash remains under investigation.
