Groton Goes Over Snow Budget

The town of Groton has gone over its snow budget for the season and more snow is on the way.

Groton’s snow removal budget was $273,013, but they had already exceeded it by Feb. 3, according to a town council weekly status report posted on the town’s Web site on Thursday, Feb. 12.

As of Feb. 3, crews from the Department of Public Works cleared snow during 10 snow events and they were already $3,137 over the approved budget.

As of Feb. 12, the town had cleared snow from two additional storms. Other costs not included in the budget are an order for 500 tons of salt, at a cost of $40,000, and overtime for storms between Feb. 3 and 12.

This also does not take into account any expenditures for the weekend snow.

There is more snow is the forecast for on Monday night into Tuesday.
