Market at Hartford 21 Opens

There is now a place in downtown Hartford for grocery shopping,

Workers and residents of Downtown Hartford no longer have to travel far to get their groceries or a quick bite for lunch.

The grand opening of Market at Hartford 21 on Asylum Street happened on Wednesday where the mayor and the owners of the gourmet market welcomed guests and showed what they have to offer the community.

Bonnie King, who works across the street, is excited about the store opening nearby.

“Just having something nearby to grab something quick on the way home, this is wonderful,” King said.

The store will be open seven days a week and offer a variety of groceries and prepared foods, such as flatbread pizza, sandwiches, fresh seafood, sushi, produce and desserts.

Ryan and Kelleanne Jones, of Wethersfield, own the store and hope it will help revive the downtown area and make it more than a place to buy your groceries.

“Everyone who lives downtown will be able to get all the groceries that they need and ,in addition, it’s a place you’ll want to come and read the New York Times,” Kelleanne Jones said.

Not only does the store allow downtown workers to grab a quick bite, but it also provided jobs for 89 people and more than half of them are from Hartford.

Stacey Myers will be working at the deli counter and it took her about a year to get the job.

“It was a relief to get one and I was excited once they told me I had the job,” Myers said.
