Strong thunderstorms drop hail in northeastern Connecticut

NBCUniversal Media, LLC

Strong storms moved into northeastern Connecticut late Wednesday afternoon and evening, bringing thunder, lightning and even hail to some towns.

The storms developed just north of the Massachusetts state line and made their way into Connecticut Wednesday afternoon.

Hail the size of golf balls was reported in Putnam.

Earlier severe thunderstorm warnings for Tolland and Windham counties have since expired.

The earlier storms brought thunder and lightning, as well as heavy rain across the state. Some towns saw as much as 1-inch of rain from the storms.

We did get a good deal of sunshine to break through during the afternoon.

The rain has cleared and will make way for some sun early Thursday. More showers are possible later Thursday evening.

On and off showers are likely on Friday.
