FIRST ALERT: Thousands of Power Outages Reported Amid Strong Winds, Pouring Rain

NBC Connecticut First Alert meteorologists are tracking a storm that's bringing rain and strong winds to the state this afternoon.

Eversource is reporting several thousands of households without power across Connecticut. For a full list of outages, click here.

The rain will be heavy at times, with the most impact expected now through 7 p.m. Moderate to heavy intensity rainfall is expected.

Wind gusts are really starting to pick up along the shoreline.

A wind advisory is in place throughout southern New England through Wednesday evening.

Wind gusts could get up to around 55 miles per hour.

The strongest winds will coincide with the evening commute, depending on when you're driving.

State police urge residents to be cautious while driving under rainy and windy conditions.

Some scattered tree damage and power outages are possible.

Eversource said it is closely monitoring the forecast and making preparations to respond to any potential power outages. External crews have also been brought in.

High temperatures will be near 60 degrees.

There will be partial clearing and cooler temperatures on Thursday. It will also be windy with gusts up to 40 MPH.

A snow squall is possible in the Litchfield Hills.
