A 35-year-old West Hartford man sustained non-life threatening injuries while hunting in Canaan Saturday after another hunter fired a shot from about 75 yards away that struck him in his face, head, neck and arms.

Department of Environmental Protection officials say that Peter Pavegilo was hunting pheasants with another hunter at the  Swamp Wildlife Management Area around 10:30 a.m. when he was struck by a bird shot from another hunter.

According to DEP officials, Alden Brooks of Waterbury was hunting with three other men when he fired a shot that struck a pheasant an also hit Pavegilo.

Paveglio was transported to Sharon Hospital for his injuries, which were described as non-life threatening.

Brooks was arrested charged with Negligent Hunting in the Second-Degree, say DEP officials.

He was released upon a written promise to appear at Bantam Superior Court on Nov. 2.
