Fire Destroys A Southington Home

A Thanksgiving Day fire destroyed a family's home and dreams just after noon in Southington.

"We're just ready to have Thanksgiving dinner," said Bob Yorski. Then the phone rang, and his nephew, Darryl Upson, learned his house was on fire.

Once he got to Sabina Drive he realized there was nothing he could do to save his house. Southington firefighters could only keep it from spreading.

"When we first arrived," said Capt. Alan Zygmunt, "we had very heavy fire all across the whole back of the building and the incident commander called a defensive operation, which basically means no one enters the building."

No one was hurt and no one was in the house during the fire. Yorski said his nephew had just finished expanding the raised ranch.
