Church Calls for Members to Honor Parishioner Who Passed Away

Sandra Maturo, of West Haven, was the caretaker for her mother and father, then cared for her younger sister when she needed assistance.

Her sister, Anne, passed away a few years ago and Sandra, the last living member of the small but tightknit immediate family, passed away at the age of 68.

She is survived by several cousins in Connecticut and Massachusetts, as well as across the country, but her church is also asking parishioners to come together as part of her extended family and honor her.

In addition to her relatives and her church family, Maturo also had a work family. For 25 years, she worked as a paralegal for the Pellegrino Law Firm before retiring in 2009 and those she worked with have fond memories of Sandra as a funny and sweet coworker who was always happy, as well as thoughtful and kind. They also said one of her loves was to travel and her favorite destination was Italy.

One of those former coworkers will honor be honoring Sandra by singing at her funeral services.

Visitation will be Wednesday morning, from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in St. John Vianney Church. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to either Sisters of Charity Center 6301 Riverdale Ave. Bronx, NY 10471-1093 or St. Joseph’s Residence 1365 Enfield St. Enfield, Connecticut 06082-4925.
