Driver Seriously Injured in I-395 South Crash in Norwich

A driver was injured in a crash on Interstate 395 southbound in Norwich, according to state police.

Glen Andrews, 50, of Sterling, was headed northbound on the highway past exit 82 when he veered into the left lane and the median, hitting a guard rail, state police said. The car flipped over and landed facing southwest on that side of the highway. The impact of the crash threw the driver from the car, causing serious injuries.

American Ambulance transported Andrews to Backus Hospital and airlifted to Hartford Hospital. A Northeast Towing tow truck transported the vehicle to state police Troop E barracks. The vehicle was slightly damaged.

The driver wasn't wearing a seatbelt, state police said.

Police say a one-car accident shut down the highway between exits 18 and 14 (previously exits 83 and 82). The highway has since reopened.

State police ask anyone with information to call Trooper Marcaccio at Troop E at 860-848-6500.
