DPH Order Allows Temporary Pipeline to Supply Water to 4 Towns

The state Department of Health has issued an amended emergency order to allow for the construction of a temporary pipeline to supply water to four towns in Fairfield county amid drought conditions.

On September 29, DPH declared a public water supply emergency for Greenwich, Stamford, Darien and New Canaan. That order allowed the Aquarion Water Company divert water from other sources of supply to the four Connecticut towns.

The order issued Tuesday will allow the water company to divert from an additional source and to build a temporary pipline to provide for customers in those towns.

Much of the state has been experiencing drought conditions and with no major rain in the forecast the conditions do not look to be improving anytime soon.

According to the US Drought Monitor, approximately 86 percent of Connecticut is under severe drought conditions and the remainder of the state is under moderate drought conditions.
