Fire destroyed a home in Jewett City early Friday morning and a man who was in the home was transported to the hospital to be evaluated.
Firefighters responded around 5 a.m. to the house on North Main Street, which is also Route 12 and crews were called in from Jewett City, Griswold, Lisbon, Yantic, Taftville and Plainfield.
One man who was in the home escaped and was out before firefighters arrived.
Officials said the property cannot be saved.
“It was pretty much engulfed all the way around. It was just saving everything around it at that point, make sure everyone was safe and out of the way,” Jewett City Fire Department Chief Louis Demicco said.
The state fire marshal has been called in to assist local fire marshals with the investigation.
