Hartford City Council Adopts Budget: Report

The Hartford City Council adopted a $552.9 million budget last night, according to the Hartford Courant, and it keeps the city’s tax rate the same, but includes layoffs, union concessions and cuts in several departments.

Mayor Luke Bronin is also aiming for $15.5 million in givebacks from the unions by July 1 and more cuts and layoffs are possible if that does not happen.

The 40 layoffs in the budget were announced earlier and the employees have already been laid off.

The budget also includes $1 million in non-union concessions, a reduction in subsides for parades and festivals and the transfer of Hartford-owned Batterson Park in Farmington to the pension fund.

Council members still looking for long-term solutions to curb spending.
