Fort Trumbull Beach Reopens After High Bacteria Levels Found

Fort Trumbull Beach in Milford reopened this weekend after high levels of bacteria closed the beach to swimmers Thursday, according to the Milford Health Department.

The water was tested again over the weekend and "satisfactory test results" prompted the health department to reopen the beach.

Health department officials said the contaminated samples were collected Monday and Wednesday of this week.

Although the excessive bacteria could reflect "rapid natural cleansing of the waters following extreme rainfall," the beach will remain closed until the waters are sampled again Friday morning, the health department said.
