Hundreds Attend Waterbury Tree Lighting

Hundreds of people showed up on the Waterbury Green on Sunday to attend the annual tree lighting and enjoyed hay rides and a band that played favorite holiday songs.

People were asked to bring a non-perishable food item for a local food pantry and those who brought food or made a cash donation received a Frankies hot dog.

“It has been phenomenal. People have just been coming out in droves and families that just bring everything and anything they can. And it’s wonderful to see it,” Caroline Colaci, an employee of Frankies, said.

But the main act was the tree lighting.

After a countdown, a group of children had the honor of officially flipping the switch to light the tree.

This dazzling event was sponsored by the City of Waterbury and the Arts and Tourism Commission.
