Norwich Man Sentenced to 40 Years in Prison for Fatally Shooting Wife

The Norwich man who shot and killed his wife in 2009 has been convicted of murder or sentenced to 40 years in prison, according to New London Superior Court.

Eric Chyung had been married to Paige Bennett for three weeks when he shot and killed her at their home in the Taftville section of Norwich.

A prosecutor’s report released shortly after the shooting says Chyung and his wife had been arguing prior to the shooting. He left the house afterward and did not immediately call 911, according to the report.

Chyung told police the shooting was an accident and said he was putting the gun in a suitcase when it discharged.

He pleaded not guilty to murder and was released in 2012 after family members posted $1 million bond.

Bennett’s family – and the court – believe the shooting was intentional. Chyung was convicted of murder and first-degree manslaughter in March.
