An infant died on Wednesday afternoon after getting stuck between the mattress of a bed and the headboard during a nap at a home in Meriden.
The 10-month-old little girl's father brought her from their Willimantic home to a relative, who watched the baby while the father was at work, police said.
The child and her caretaker were napping on a bed, police said, and it appears the baby rolled off and became stuck between the mattress and the headboard as the caretaker napped.
Police responded to a call at the Sherman Avenue home for an unresponsive infant and an ambulance brought her to a local hospital, where the child was pronounced deceased.
An autopsy is being conducted.
No criminal charges have been filed, police said, and officers said no names are being released.
