Humble Pie on the Menu for Patriots

Kraft, Brady and the Pats swallow tough pre-season loss

In the pre-season, wins and losses don't matter. The fact that the Rams edged the Patriots on Thursday night doesn't matter as much the team's performance.

Don't tell that to Bill Belichick. He served his team a healthy heap of humble pie for the loss.

In an interview with WEEI radio, Tom Brady said that Belichick let the team have it at practices and team meetings.

"He gave it to us pretty good," Brady said. "There's always a running joke with our team [with] the humble pie. He was serving it on Friday. It was just what we needed. We didn't go out and play very well."

Though Brady showed he was season-ready, throwing for three touchdowns and 273 yards, the rest of the team was not as good. The defense let the Rams get 462 yards, and convert on 11 out of 17 third down attempts.

Brady and the team weren't the only ones eating humble pie after the game. Owner Robert Kraft made a call to the Rams new owner Stan Kroenke after Brandon Tate's 97-yard opening kickoff return, saying "Welcome to the NFL." Kroenke returned the call when the Rams won the game.
