Joe Morris grew up sailing on the Severn River in Maryland, near his hometown of Annapolis, and raced many different types of boats throughout his high school and college career.

After enrolling at Yale University in 2008, Morris was named 2009 New England Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (NEICSA) Rookie of the Year and was a two-time Yale sailing captain. He was a four-time Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association All-American at Yale and has also been a five-time National Champion.

Morris and 49er partner Thomas Barrows – who were also teammates at Yale – qualified for Olympic selection from combined results of the Sailing World Cup in Miami, Fla. and the 49er World Championships in Clearwater.

At 10 years old, Morris discovered sailing as an Olympic sport and made it his lifelong dream to compete in them. The Rio Games will be his first Olympics.
