Hot Dog Meat Sauce

Makes about one pint.

What’s wrong with a hot dog? It is one of the simple pleasures of being an American and great on the grill.

  • 8 oz. ground beef
  • ½ cup small, diced onion
  • 1 tsp. chopped garlic
  • 1 tsp. kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp. chili powder
  • 2 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1 large plum tomato, chopped small
  • 3 tbsp. tomato ketchup

Heat a small pot over medium heat, then add the ground beef and onion.

Cook while stirring to break up the meat for about two minutes.

Incorporate the garlic and kosher salt, then cook for 45 seconds. Stir in the chili powder and ground cumin. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook for two additional minutes.

Mix in the ketchup, then remove from the heat. Top any available hot dog.
