8/25: Punk, the Blues, Wine and Tennis

Not only can you catch some great tennis action at the Pilot Pen tonight, you can also enjoy the New Haven Food & Wine Festival.

WHAT"S UP HOLMES?:  You hear that?  Yup, that's the sound of the Blues coming to town.  Over the course of their 30-plus year career, the Holmes Brothers (featuring actual brothers) has built a following with their blend of blues, gospel, soul R&B, rock, country and funk.  Tonight you can hear the trio's three-part harmonies and soulful music at Infinity Hall in Norfolk as they promote their intensely personal latest album, "Feed My Soul."  Tickets are $20-$30.  The show starts at 8 p.m.

GAME, SET, MATCH, WINE:  The Pilot Pen Tennis tournament serves up some of the best tennis around.  But whether you're a J-blocker, or a Wosniaki-head (just made that up, think it'll stick?) all tennis fans need to eat.  And that's where tonight comes into play.  Head over to the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale for the New Haven Food & Wine Festival.  The festival is a showcase of the Elm City's eclectic and international cuisine.  Restaurants like 116 Crown, Geronimo, Thali Too, Caseus and more will take part.  And famed chef Jacques Pepin will be on hand as well.  Tickets are $105.  The food will be served up between 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

ON THE COUCH:  Got a hankerin' for some locally grown rock?  Make room in your schedule to head over to the Space in Hamden to check out hardcore pop-punkers Casting Call.  The New Haven-area quartet describes themselves as having "the most brutal sounding happiness I have ever heard."  Also on the evening's agenda, Acadia Falls, Two O'Clock Courage and Dear You.  Doors open at 7 p.m.
