New Haven Searching For “Holiday” Tree

It may be the middle of the summer, but New Haven is already planning for the winter holidays.

The New Haven Department of Recreation and Trees is on the hunt for the perfect tree for the New Haven Green during the holidays season.

The "holiday tree", as New Haven is calling it,  should be between 55 and 70 feet tall and either a Norway Spruce or Douglas Fir. It cannot be a Blue Spruce, according to city officials.

When the time comes later this year, city workers will remove the tree from the donor's property free of charge and then place it on the New Haven Green, where it will be decorated with more than 30,000 lights.

Trees between 25 and 40 feet will be considered for future years, according to the spokesperson.

Anyone wishing to donate a tree should contact Chrissy Hass at the New Haven Parks Maintenance Division by calling 203-946-8004 or by email at chass@newhavenct.net.
