Adam Greenberg Gets Minor League Deal: Report

A nationwide effort to get Guilford native Adam Greenberg one more major league at bat worked so well that he signed a one-day contract with the Miami Marlins in October. But now it appears that there are many more at bats in Greenberg’s future.

The New Haven Register reports that Greenberg has signed a minor-league deal with the Baltimore Orioles.

“It's going to happen. And it will be many more big league At-bats. Training going great,” Greenberg Tweeted on Tuesday.

If you are not already aware of Greenberg’s story, here it is:

In 2005, Greenberg was picked up by the Chicago Cubs. During the first pitch of his first and only at bat, Greenberg was hit in the head by a 92-mile-per ball and that derailed his professional baseball career.

In October, Greenberg appeared on the Today Show and his one-day contract with the Marlins was announced. He struck out, but he was grinning from ear to ear at the opportunity and received hugs and slaps on the backs from his teammates.

Greenberg attended the winter meeting in Nashville and Tweeted that he met with the Marlins and Mets. Then on Dec. 4, Tweeted that he had a “great” meeting with the Orioles. The next day, he  Tweeted that he had an agent.

“That at bat, as amazing as it was, it was just one, and I haven’t played my whole career for just one more at bat in the major leagues. I have played to have a career in the big leagues and hopefully help an organization win games,” he said in an interview posted on MLB.com’s Hot Stove.

The national push reignited Greenberg’s desire to play and now he has another chance.
