A former guard at the federal prison in Danbury faces up to 10 years when he is sentenced Thursday for having sex with a female inmate and plotting with her to kill his wife.
Michael Rudkin, of Brewster, N.Y., pleaded guilty last August to sexual abuse of a ward and attempted murder for hire.
Rudkin and the inmate had a sexual relationship from October 2007 to January 2008 and he promised to pay her $5,000 to arrange for his wife's murder, prosecutors said.
Rudkin also asked the inmate to wait until he could reinstate a life insurance policy on his wife, prosecutors said.
Investigators learned of the plot before any harm came to Rudkin's wife.
