55 Pounds of Marijuana Delivered to Willimantic Post Office

This summer, 55 pounds of marijuana were mailed from Arizona to the Willimantic Post Office, and police have arrested a suspect.

Police said the shipment arrived in June. It came over in two packages and had a total street value of about $110,000.

Jeffrey Mazzola, 57, of Willimantic, turned himself in on Oct. 25 following a months-long investigation by the Willimantic police and the U.S. Postal Inspectors Office. He was charged with criminal attempt to possess more than 1 kilogram of marijuana with intent to sell.

The investigation was launched in May after Willimantic K-9 officers received a tip that a marijuana shipment was being mailed to the post office on Main Street through the U.S. Postal Service.

The packages were intercepted the following month.

A U.S. Postal Inspector in Arizona helped with the investigation.

Mazzola was released on a $25,000 surety bond. He’s due in court Nov. 4.
