Arrest Made in Connection With Shooting of Teen at Stratford Basketball Court

Stratford police have arrested a man in connection with the shooting of a 16-year-old boy who was playing basketball in Stratford over the summer. 

Police arrested 20-year-old Jacques Smith, of Stratford, Wednesday in connection with a drive-by shooting on Aug. 7 at the George Force Basketball Courts on Woodend Road.  

The injured teen was treated at Bridgeport Hospital. 

Smith was held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Court on Feb. 21. 

He was charged with assault in the first degree, reckless endangerment, weapon in a motor vehicle, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of ammunition and carrying a pistol without a permit. 

Police said several people witnessed the shooting and investigators are asking anyone with information to call Detective Policano or Detective Torres at 203-381-2098.
