Bridgeport Bluefish Say They Offered Tim Tebow a Baseball Contract

Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow is reported to be trying out for more than 20 Major League Baseball teams, according to NBC Sports, and the Bridgeport Bluefish have offered him a contract to play for the team during the 2016 season.

“The Bluefish welcome Tim with open arms,” Bluefish General Manager Jamie Toole said in a statement. “The Atlantic League is all about giving players opportunity, and we think Bridgeport would be a great place for him to begin his professional baseball career.”

ESPN first reported the news about Tebow's interest in a baseball career and it's not yet clear if Tebow, who last played organized baseball in high school, will actually play baseball professionally.

News of his attempts to pursue professional baseball have gotten mixed reviews and the Associated Press reports that Tebow displayed a powerful bat, quick legs and otherwise shaky skills in a workout for dozens of major league scouts at Southern California's Dadeaux Field.

The former University of Florida and NFL quarterback hit several long home runs and completed the 60-yard dash in about 6.7 seconds. However, the 29-year-old Tebow appeared hesitant in the outfield and was repeatedly fooled by off-speed pitches from former big leaguers David Aardsma and Chad Smith, according to the Associated Press.

Yahoo, citing sources, reported that a winter team in Venezuela also offered him a contract.
