CT Had Most Bank Robberies in New England

FBI statistics state that 11 of the 17 bank robberies in New England were here.

There were more bank robberies in the state of Connecticut between July and September of last year than any other state in New England, according to statistics the FBI released on Tuesday.

Of the 17 bank robberies in New England, 11 were in Connecticut. That number is high for New England, but lower than the 98 bank robberies in New York.

Over the three-month span, the FBI reports 1,081 bank robberies nationwide.

Friday was the most common day for a bank robbery to occur and most happen between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

One reason most bank robberies happen on Fridays, according to the Center for Problem-Oriented Policing, might be because of the increased traffic at banks on payday and because robberies addicted to drugs and alcohol might be looking for cash to fuel weekend partying.

There were 24 bank robberies in the state from Jan. 1 to March 31 and 18 bank robberies between April 1, 2011 and June 30.

There were 56 bank robberies in Connecticut in 2010, down from 82 in 2009 and 108 in 2003.
