A man riding a bicycle in Meriden hit a van after running a stop sign and was transported to the hospital, according to police.
Police responded to Norwood and Liberty streets at about 7:36 a.m. Tuesday to investigate and found a man lying in the road, with injuries to his left arm and shoulder.
Police originally identified the person who was injured as a child, but have since identified him as Rafael Alvarez, 20.
Witnesses said Alvarez ignored a stop sign, traveled into the intersection and hit a van that was traveling on Liberty Street. The van driver was not hurt.
Alvarez's injuries are not life-threatening and police issued him a ticket for disregarding the stop sign, police said.
